LAHORE: The suspect in the murder of a woman and her daughter on Lutton Road some days ago has turned out to be the deceased's brother, police said after arresting the accused.

According to authorities, the arrested suspect, who has confessed to his crime, said he was an addict and killed his sister and his niece on April 14 over her refusal to give him money for drugs. He, however, did not have the heart to kill his four-year-old nephew, he admitted, so he left him locked in the washroom of the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and fled.

On April 14, the residents of Kacha Ferozepur Road had informed authorities about the dead bodies of Ayesha, 35, and her six-year-old daughter, Amna, which, when recovered, were ascertained to be several days old. The bodies had been doused in acid afterwards. Ayesha's four-year-old son, Ahmed, was missing.

Consequently, CIA Kotwali Police took the deceased's husband, Ahmed Hussain, and brother, Usman, into custody and initiated a probe into the murders. It was during questioning that Usman confessed to murdering his sister and niece, saying he mixed poisoned her tea when she refused to give him money to buy drugs. He loved his nephew a lot so he didn't kill him, he said.

Police also brought the missing child under their protection after recovering him from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital upon Usman's indication and had run a TV campaign for seven days to search for his kin.

The arrested suspect's brother came to the police station and confirmed that the boy was late Ayesha's missing son, Ahmed. Closed-circuit video (CCTV) from the time the suspect dropped his nephew at the hospital also confirmed Usman's identify.
