ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif on Thursday said party president Shehbaz Sharif would return to Pakistan to attend the National Assembly’s budget session.

The PML-N nominated Rana Tanveer as Shehbaz’s replacement for Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman and Khawaja Asif as parliamentary party leader, raising questions about his return to Pakistan.

Shehbaz is currently in London where he is said to be receiving medical treatment.

“Mian sb is our party’s leader. He is the opposition leader in the National Assembly and party president… Mian sb will lead the debate during the budget session,” Asif told reporters.

When asked out the changes in the PML-N, Asif replied that by not having three positions held by the same person, work would improve.

‘Shehbaz won’t come back’

Special assistant to the prime minister on information Firdous Ashiq Awan told Geo News that Shehbaz Sharif would not be returning to Pakistan.

“If he wanted to return from London he would not even appoint someone as a chowkidar (guard) outside his home….They [Sharif’s] divide these positions within the family. If they have started appointing people outside the family to these positions it indicates this is the first step towards an NRO,” Awan added.

Awan when asked if an NRO had been given, said the Sharif’s need to answer questions about their alleged corruption in court.
