Director James Cameron passed on his congratulations to Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios for Avengers: Endgame outperforming his 1997 blockbusterTitanic.

Endgame stormed to the second biggest box-office take ever, earning $2.19 billion worldwide in less than two weeks to become the number 2 film of all time.

In a tweet, the Oscar-winning director congratulated Feige and the Marvel family for surpassing the record.

“An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic,” Cameron tweeted, sharing a photo of the Avengers logo capsizing the cruise ship.

“Everyone here at Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You’ve shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it’s bigger than ever,” he added.

Hollywood analysts predict a long run for Avengers, which drew a rare 96 per cent rating on the Rotten Tomatoes website and features a star-studded cast including Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and Josh Brolin.

However, Cameron is still the king of the box office despite The Russo brothers-directed film surpassing Titanic’s record. His 2009 film Avatar remains the biggest movie ever with $2.78 billion worldwide.
