LAHORE: Thousands of Wapda workers on Thursday staged protest demonstrations in all big cities of the country against price hike, loadshedding and unemployment.
The demonstrations were held in Quetta, Sukkur, Hyderabad, Karachi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Gujranwala, Islamabad and Peshawar under the aegis of Pakistan Wapda Hydro electric central labour union.
In Lahore, thousands of Wapda and electricity workers carrying banners inscribed with demands and slogans marched through various roads of the city. The workers were demanding the government to establish dams and coal power generation plants to meet the shortage of electricity and bring down its rates.
They also demanded 40 percent increase in their salary in the coming federal budget and minimum wages should be Rs 10,000.
They warned that they would march towards Islamabad if their demands were not met. (APP)
