School, 'encroachments' razed down as KCR demolition drive restarts in SITE Area

KARACHI: A government school as well as other "encroachments" were razed down Wednesday here in the metropolis' SITE Area as the demolition drive to pave way for the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) restarted.

After a 12-day holiday, the anti-encroachment operation restarted in Karachi's West District where heavy machinery alongside a contingent of police personnel were brought in to ensure smooth razing-down work.

In the start, Government School Hinopak — located on a railway track in SITE Area — was downed. After that, other structures on the railway crossing labelled "encroachments" were demolished.

During the process, a six-inch wide water supply line was cut and broken off; police explained that it was illegally installed. In this regard, Sanaullah, the duty director for property and land, explained that everything that was in a 50-foot distance from the railway track was demolished.

Rubble piling up to two to two-and-a-half feet was also cleared away. The operation concluded at the Gul Bai Petrol Pump in SITE Area.

Authorities at the site said the anti-encroachment operation had resumed to speedily complete the work in in accordance with the court's orders.
