ISLAMABAD: A pregnant woman who had been forced to drink acid by her husband passed away Wednesday in a hospital here in the federal capital after enduring five days of agony, authorities confirmed.

The woman was forced to drink acid at her home in Al Noor Colony in Islamabad, officials from the Bhara Kahu police station said. A first information report (FIR) was registered on behalf of the deceased's brother, police said, adding that they have initiated an investigation into the matter.

The woman's brother, on whose behalf the FIR was filed, said his sister had a nine-year-old daughter. He said neither he nor any other family member was informed about the incident.
