KARACHI: Actor Zaheen Tahira is doing better and has started to talk as well, her family said Tuesday, a day after she was admitted to a hospital and put on a ventilator.

"She is recovering and doing better. She has also started to talk now," the family of Tahira, 70, explained, adding that she had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) following a major cardiac arrest on June 23.

A day prior, actors, models, and others from Pakistan’s showbiz industry had come together after news of her illness surfaced to send her love and prayers, pray for her recovery, and urge people to do the same.

Imran Abbas, the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil star, had tweeted: "The Legendary Actress Zaheen Tahira admitted in Agha Khan Hospital due to [a] serious heart attack.

"And She Needs Our Prayers As She Is On Ventilator. Please Pray for her recovery," he had added.

The veteran actor is known for her role in TV drama Khuda Ki Basti. She entered the entertainment industry in the mid-60s and is one of the most beloved actresses of Pakistan.

The actress has worked in the entertainment industry for decades, in various lead roles, in more than 700 dramas. She was honoured with the Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2013 by then-president Asif Ali Zardari for her distinctive work in the Pakistani TV industry.
