LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar on Saturday took strict notice of the rising number of incidents of child abuse in the province and directed the top police official to immediately come up with a plan to eradicate the menace.

CM Buzdar further advised that those accused of child abuse be handed strictest of punishments.

Buzdar told Arif Nawaz Khan, the inspector-general of police (IGP) of Punjab to prepare a collective action plan to stop incidents of child abuse and award strict punishments to those involved in or perpetrating such heinous acts.

He said action against the perpetrators should be taken without any discrimination no matter how influential they are or how powerful their background is.

The chief minister added that a report of such incidents be sent to the CM House after sexual predators were caught. "I'm answerable to the people of this province," he said.

"No one can be permitted to destroy the lives of innocent children."
