‘The Lighthouse’ star Willem Dafoe revealed that co-actor Robert Pattinson used to beat himself up to get in character for the horror film.

Dafoe told Variety in an interview that “he's (Pattinson) not interested in craft, I think. He wants to throw himself into deep water and he feels like it will only be true if he's drowning.”

Dafoe also added that he thinks Pattinson has a strange way of preparing for scenes.

“For me, that seemed wacky. But I'm not trying to judge. He has a good sense of the visual, of what's needed in a close-up. Sometimes he'd beat himself up so bad. He'd stick his fingers down his throat, things like that," he said.

Pattinson opened up that he put himself through various scenarios, especially for the fight scenes in the movie directed by Robert Eggers, to accurately play his character Ephrain – who slowly morphs into what can be considered madness.
