LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) leader and son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, Captain (retd) Safdar was arrested late Monday evening, party leader Ata Tarar said.

“Captain Safdar was taken into custody by police near Ravi Toll Plaza late Monday,” Tarar said, adding he was on his way from Bhera to Lahore.

On October 12, a Lahore sessions court approved Safdar’s interim bail till October 26 in a case regarding interference in public matters and misbehavior with the police.

Police said a case was lodged against the PML-N leader under Section 124A after October 11 for hate-speech against state institutions.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif was shifted to the Services Hospital as his condition deteriorated.

Taking to Twitter, the former prime minister’s personal physician Dr Adnan Malik stated that Nawaz required immediate in-hospital care.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif said that the government’s act of not shifting the former prime minister earlier to a hospital for medical care was the worst example of political vengeance and insensitivity.

“If anything happens to Nawaz Sharif, we will blame Imran Khan for it,” he said.
