Super Cyclone Kyarr calmer, intensity revised to Category 4

KARACHI: Super Cyclone Kyarr has started to turn calmer, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Tuesday revised its intensity to Category 4.

According to the PMD, Super Cyclone Kyarr is at least 370 kilometres away from Karachi but waves are expected to remain higher and the seawater agitated. The stormy seas, therefore, could lead to flooding in the coastal areas and the nearby islands in Pakistan's south.

Pakistan's southern port city was expected to experience winds of 45km per hour, with light downpour and cloudy weather.

On the other hand, daily life remains disrupted on the coastal areas in both Sindh and Balochistan. After residents of Rehri Goth left the relief camp to return to their neighbourhood last night, they found their homes still waterlogged.

Super Cyclone Kyarr, which remains active in the Arabian Sea, was still influencing moist currents to penetrate Sindh's coastal areas. A westerly wave is also present along the country's northwestern parts.

Tuesday

Mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while cold in northern areas. However, cloudy weather condition with light rain and dust storm is expected at coastal areas of Sindh. Cloudy weather conditions with rain is also expected at few places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Wednesday

Mainly dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, with cold weather in the northern areas. However, cloudy weather condition with light rain and dust storm is expected at coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

Cloudy weather conditions with rain (snowfall over high mountains) is also expected at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.

Weather remained dry in most parts of the country while cold in northern areas. Lowest Minimum Temperatures Recorded: Skardu 0°C, Gupis 01°,Kalam and Astore 03°C.
