ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday emphasised that farmers should be equipped with the latest technology in order to boost the agricultural sector.

This was discussed when the prime minister held a meeting with Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiar.

To develop and boost the agriculture sector is among the top priorities of the government, the premier noted.

He also said that with the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) underway Pakistan is willing to take full benefit from Chinese experts in the sector. This, he said, would help increase efficiency in the local agricultural sector.

Fifty percent of the workforce is linked to agriculture and it has a major share in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which manifests its importance, said the prime minister.

He expressed confidence in Bakhtiar who had recently been given the ministry and said that the newly appointed minister will devote his energies for the development of the agricultural sector.
