HYDERABAD: Police on Tuesday foiled a child marriage when they successfully recovered a 14-year-old girl who had been sold off to a blind man as bride by her father for Rs30,000 here in the city.

According to the assistant superintendent of police (ASP) for Cantt, Zahida Parveen, Laal Bakhsh Jamali had promised to marry his then-11-year-old daughter to a blind man against a sum worth Rs20,000. Then, a few days ago, he demanded and received another payment of Rs10,000 and set the wedding date as November 30.

Police have registered a first information report (FIR) over the matter against Laal Bakhsh Jamali, as well as Ashiq Jamali, the man who bought his daughter and arrested both of them, ASP Parveen added.

The 14-year-old girl was handed over into the custody of child protection unit of Hyderabad.
