KARACHI: Dua Mangi, who was abducted from near a Karachi eatery last Saturday, has returned home, a senior police official has confirmed.

“Dua reached her home safely today,” Deputy Inspector General (South) Sharjil Kharal confirmed to Geo News. He added that investigations into her abduction are still active.

Dua’s mother, while speaking to the media, said, “Our daughter has safely returned home. Thankful to the media and the civil society.”

Dua’s father, Dr Nisar Ahmed Mangi, also announced Dua's return on social media, saying she has reached home "safely" and that he was grateful for her safe return.

Sharing a pic with his daughter, Dr Mangi wrote: “By the grace of God and blessing of the loving people of Sindh, people of Pakistan and friends from all over the world, my daughter Dua Mangi reached home safely, I am very much thankful to friends from media, specially civil society who helped us in these tough circumstances and shared their feelings with my family.”

Dua had been kidnapped from Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority last week by an unknown number of armed persons. She was abducted from near a restaurant in the Bukhari Commercial area.

At the time of the kidnapping, Dua had been walking home with a friend, Haris Soomro.

Soomro was shot critically by the abductors as they kidnapped Dua. He was subsequently taken to a private hospital for treatment, where he remains in critical condition.

Police had lodged an FIR for the incident naming at least four unidentified persons.

Law enforcement officials had said that the men who kidnapped Dua had used a car that was previously stolen from the city’s PECHS area.
