KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister, Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza offered an apology over remarks made about the Urdu speaking community and MQM Chief Altaf Hussain, Geo News reported.
In video statement released late Thursday night, Dr. Mirza said that the comments made were his own opinions and were not intended to harm the sentiments of any community. “My remarks were not reflective of the party policy and Urdu speakers are my brothers and will remain my bothers” Mirza said.
The remarks made by Dr. Mirza led to protests led by MQM workers across the country. The situation in Karachi remained volatile throughout Thursday and 17 people were killed, over 30 injured and 37 vehicles were burnt in incidents of violence throughout the city.
The situation in Karachi and other cities of Sindh started to improve following an appeal by MQM Chief Altaf Hussain to workers to end their peaceful protests and return to their homes.
