KARACHI: The management of Lahore Qalandars said on Wednesday it is committed to make Pakistan 'a superpower in cricket' through its Player Development Program (PDP) which aims to bring hidden talent to the limelight.

The statement came after Haris Rauf — Qalandars' PDP find — claimed a hat-trick in Big Bash League. The fast bowler has already received praise for his superb performance.

Rauf has, so far, taken 13 wickets in four matches.

But the highlight of his performance in the Big Bash League was taking three-in-three on Wednesday for Melbourne Stars against Sydney Thunders.

“It’s a dream come true moment for us, credit goes to Aaqib Javed who worked hard on him and most importantly showed confidence on him and today Haris has become a star,” said Sameen Rana, the CEO of Lahore Qalandars.

Haris was a street cricketer in Rawalpindi and had never played professional cricket at any level before being picked by Lahore Qalandars during its player development program.

Since then, Rauf has never looked back.

“Credit to Haris for utilising the opportunity well," Sameen added.

Rana also appreciated Rauf for modifying his wicket-celebration-style after the fast bowler was criticised earlier for his manner of celebration.

"People had advised Rauf to change the style as it possibly didn't go well with many, he did so and proved that he's also a humble person who is willing to learn at every step," the CEO of Lahore Qalandars added.

The statement by the franchise added that they're proud of Haris Rauf's achievement in Big Bash League and they aim to continue the tradition of developing new talent for Pakistan.
