RAWALPINDI: Drive against the increasing trend of one-wheeling by youngsters is continue and it is being checked by special squads of traffic officials deputed on the roads said Senior Traffic Officer Syed Ishtiaq Shah.

Talking to APP he said traffic police officers have been directed to keep a vigilant eye on one wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them.

He informed the traffic officers and circle heads have been directed to take stern action against the one-wheelers without discrimination and no one should be spared if found involved in this dangerous act, which is a cause of deaths and severe injuries.

He directed the traffic wardens to supervise the campaign in their areas and take effective measures in this regard. During the campaign, those who found engaged in one-wheeling would be sent behind the bars, he said.

He said cases under section 99/A would be registered against one wheelers and they would be sent behind the bars.

The activity has claimed several precious lives and a number of youngsters have sustained serious injuries due to one wheeling, he added.

The Senior Traffic Officer said most traffic accidents can be averted if precautionary measures are adopted with strict observance of traffic rules.

He said the parents should come forward and play their role to curb the activity, as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving are the main causes for fatal accidents.

Nowadays, youths are seen riding the two-wheelers at break-neck speed, without caring their lives, he said adding they should avoid this practice as it is in their own interest.

He said that traffic wardens were responsible for ensuring a smooth flow of traffic and checking violation of law on roads. To control one-wheeling, the City Traffic Police have deputed special officials in different parts of the city, he added.
