ISLAMABAD: Police arrested Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) MNA Mohsin Dawar and 30 others on Tuesday as they were protesting against the detention of Manzoor Pashteen.
The Waziristan MNA was taken into custody outside the National Press Club, where he staged a protest against the arrest of Pashteen. Dawar was shifted to the Kohsar Police Station.
Pashteen was arrested from the Tahkal area of Peshawar during the early hours of Monday morning.
According to the FIR filed against the PTM chief, he is accused of using threatening and derogatory language against the state during a gathering in DI Khan on Jan 18.
He was presented before the court of Magistrate Naveed Ullah Gigiani, who handed him over to law enforcement authorities on a 14-day judicial remand on Monday.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story had incorrectly stated that MNA Ali Wazir and senior politician Afrasiab Khattak had been arrested from the protest. It has since emerged that only MNA Mohsin Dawar has been arrested. The error is regretted.
