KARACHI: Two more polio cases have been detected in Sindh, with one case each in Jacobabad and Mirpur Khas, the province's Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) confirmed on Saturday.

The EOC said that a five-year-old boy from Jacobabad and a four-year-old boy from Mirpur Khas have been affected by the polio virus.

The EOC spokesman said that both cases have been included in the number of cases reported in the year 2019.

With the reporting of the new cases, the tally in the province from January 2019 to February 2020 has increased to 30.

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Health, Dr Zafar Mirza said 137 polio cases were reported in the previous year.

Zafar said that the notion was incorrect that in the previous government’s tenure there were zero polio cases. He added that the number of reported cases might have been lower as compared to now.

The SAPM expressed hope that the number of polio cases will be significantly reduced in 2021.

Dr Zafar Mirza also said that the government has reviewed the anti-polio drive across the country.
