A young couple who recently tied the knot has 'gone viral' on social media, with many celebrating their decision to marry early.

The groom, Asad, is a Qatar-based Pakistani while Nimra, the bride, is a local resident. They are both reportedly only 18.

Asad developed feelings for Nimra while visiting the country for his sister’s marriage.

"I couldn’t bear the long-distance relationship, so I talked to my family and convinced them that I wanted to marry her,” Asad said in an interview to a local media outlet.

The two say their relationship has not been the typical, 'traditional couple' type.

They describe themselves as "friends who plan to explore the world together".

Praising their decision to make it formal, some netizens have gone as far as to call them 'couple of the year'.

Asad’s father has said that he will cover the couple’s expenses until they complete their education and find jobs.
