FAISALABAD: Eleven high-yield varieties of Ayub Agriculture Research Institute (AARI) Faisalabad were approved for cultivation on commercial basis.
According to a spokesman of the AARI, a high level meeting of agriculture experts held in which 13 new varieties were approved including five varieties of wheat, two of olive and 1/1 variety of sesame, canola, fodder, gram, sugarcane and helianthus (Mong). Out of total, 11 varieties were developed by AARI and its sub institutes.
The spokesman further said that Oil-seed Research Institute AARI developed sesame variety TS-5 and Faisal Canola which give high quality yield as compared to other varieties.
Similarly Nuclear Institute for Agriculture and Biology (NIAB) developed a new helianthus variety NIAB Mong-2011 that was also approved in the meeting in which Director General AARI Faisalabad Dr. Noor-ul-Islam was present, the spokesman added.
