Sonia Gandhi has surgery in US

NEW DELHI: The president of India's ruling Congress Party, Sonia Gandhi, has undergone surgery in the United States, a party spokesman said Thursday.

Janardhan Dwivedi declined to specify what the surgery was for, but told reporters it had been successful and that Gandhi would need "two to three weeks" to recuperate. (AFP)
