DPO Haripur Khurram Rashid said the PTI candidate along with his gunmen was on his way when unidentified assassins launched attack at Kalig in tehsil Hawailiyan.
As a result, Javed sustained injuries while his six bodyguards were killed, he added.
DPO Khurram further said that police have cordoned off the area in search of the attackers.
