The electricity supply has not been restored in several parts of Karachi even after more than 20 hours after a massive dust storm hit the metropolis on Wednesday.

Most of the city areas had plunged into darkness as soon as the dust storm started at around 08pm. The areas where power breakdown occurred included Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, New Karachi, North Karachi, Federal B Area, Orangi Town, Clifton, Defence, Super Highway, Sohrab Goth, Surjani Town, Taiser Town, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, and many localities in the downtown.

The supply was restored to the majority of the areas but the residents of Central Information Society, Saadat Amroha Society and other adjacent areas in Scheme-33 are complaining that they were without electricity for the last 22 hours.

“We are sweltering in hot weather since yesterday and no one is listening,” one resident said told Geo.tv, adding “when we call on K-Electric’s helpline number, we are told that repair work is underway and supply will be restored soon.”

KE did not immediately respond to a request for a comment on the matter.
