Former state minister and PPP leader Ayatullah Durrani passes away

Senior PPP leader and former state minister Ayatullah Durrani passed away in Quetta on Sunday.

Durrani, 64, served as the state minister for industries and production during the PPP's tenure in 2009. 

He had been undergoing treatment for the past few days and had been at the Fatima Jinnah Chest Hospital in Quetta.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari expressed their grief and sorrow over Durrani’s death.

Both the leaders, in a condolence message, paid rich tributes to Durrani and said that his services for the party were immense. “He was a true soldier of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who remained steadfast with the party’s ideology. His death is not only the loss of the PPP but also of the people of Balochistan,” a statement from the party read.

It added, “Not only the PPP but also the people of Balochistan lost an effective voice that fought for their rights.”

PPP Secretary General Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari and Senator Farhatullah Babar also expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of their colleague.

Sindh Chief Minister expressed grief at Durrani’s death.

“Deeply grieved to learn that friend and party stalwart Dr Ayatullah Durrani has left us today. My prayers for him and his family. May Allah Almighty make this time easier for them, and for us all,” Shah said in Twitter post.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif also sent his condolences.

“Saddened by the news of the death of PPP leader Ayatullah Durrani due to Covid-19. May Allah rest his soul in peace! My most sincere sympathies and condolences to his family & the PPP,” Shehbaz tweeted.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz and Speaker National Assembly Asad Qaiser also expressed deep grief and sorrow over Durrani’s demise.
