RAWALPINDI: Four terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Boya area of North Waziristan, the military's media wing said in a statement issued on Sunday.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was carried out in Vezhda Sar, 8km South West of Boya, Miranshah, North Wazirstan District.
"Sanitisation force conducted operation against terrorists' hideout in Vezhda Sar this morning. As soon as the troops cordoned off the area, terrorists opened fire. All dug out terrorists were shot down by security forces," read the statement.
According to ISPR, while returning fire, four soldiers embraced martyrdom. They were identified as Sepoy Muhammad Ismail Khan, Sepoy Muhammad Shahbaz Yasin, Sepoy Raja Waheed Ahmed and Sepoy Muhammad Rizwan Khan.
Over the course of the year, intelligence operations by security forces have resulted in at least 34 terrorists being killed.
During the operations, at least 15 soldiers embraced martyrdom and six others were wounded.
Last month, four soldiers were martyred during two attacks by terrorists in Waziristan.
According to the ISPR, two soldiers were martyred and one terrorist was killed during an exchange of fire between a patrolling party of the security forces and a group of terrorists on June 21.
Prior to that, on June 11, two soldiers embraced martyrdom and two others were injured when an improvised explosive device (IED) was launched on security forces southeast of Miranshah.
Before that, three operations in April had led to the martyrdom of five soldiers, as well as the successful killing of more than 20 terrorists.
Earlier, in March, four soldiers were martyred and seven terrorists killed in yet another North Waziristan IBO.
At the start of year, on January 30, two soldiers were martyred in another operation against terrorists in the Dattakhel area of North Waziristan.
The ISPR had said five terrorists were also killed in the operation on their hideout.
