ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs said Monday that a joint session of the National Assembly and Senate would be called on August 6 to discuss important legislation.

According to the ministry's spokesperson, a special session of the upper house will be called on August 5 at 10:30am.

Whereas, a session of the lower house would be called on August 7 at 5:30pm.

"During the session, approval for important legislation will be taken," the spokesperson added.

The government had postponed an earlier joint session of the parliament.

Sources said that the change in decision came due to the possible resistance from the opposition in the session, where its lawmakers constitute a majority.

It was said that a few of the pending bills need to be approved from either Houses of the Parliament, due to which the joint session will be summoned after Eid-ul-Adha, likely on August 6.

Sources had further revealed that opposition parties had asked its lawmakers to stay in the federal capital for the session, invoking apprehension in the government which led to the change in the schedule.
