PM Imran expresses deep sorrow over loss of precious lives in Lebanon explosions

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the massive explosions in Beirut.

In a tweet, the premier said that he is deeply pained to hear of the massive explosions in Beirut with precious lives lost and thousands injured and affirmed to stand in solidarity with the country during its difficult hour, sharing sorrow and grief of the victims.

"We stand in solidarity with our Lebanese brethren in their difficult hour, sharing their sorrow and grief. May Allah grants speedy recovery to the injured & strength to the bereaved," the prime minister wrote on Twitter.

According to reports, two enormous explosions rocked Beirut’s port on Tuesday, killing at least 100 people, wounding over 4,000, and causing severe damage to distant buildings, leaving the Lebanese capital in fear and chaos.

Bloodied, dazed and wounded people stumbled among the debris, glass shards, and burning buildings in central Beirut.

Lebanon is already reeling from an economic crisis that has left more than half of the population in poverty. The situation has been worsened in recent months by the coronavirus pandemic.
