Mareer Chowk Tunnel project to be started soon
RAWALPINDI: Construction work on Mareer Chowk Tunnel project aimed at resolving traffic jam problems at the busiest chowk of Rawalpindi city would be started soon, as Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has given approval to the project.

According to details, Member National Assembly (MNA) Shakeel Awan and Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) Shehreyar Riaz had presented a proposal to the Chief Minister requesting that the project should be started immediately as there is huge traffic load at Mareer Chowk which is creating problems for the citizens.

It was also mentioned that due to the traffic congestion, the motorists have to wait for 10 to 30 minutes normally, besides long lines of vehicles are witnessed there. In order to provide relief to the citizens and for the resolution of traffic problems Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has given approval of the project which would be completed at a cost of Rs 360 million.

With the construction of the project, a long standing demand of the citizens would be fulfilled and they will get a sigh of relief, as crossing of Mareer Chowk especially during peak hours is a test of nerves for the motorists.

The Mareer Chowk Tunnel project will resolve the traffic congestion problem as the traffic of Katchary, Morgah, Gulzar-e-Quaid, Civil Lines, Janda Chichi, Sawan, Chaklala Scheme III, G.T.Road and other areas would cross the bridge freely, as the railway bridge on Liaquat Bagh to Saddar side would be widened by 20 feet.
