ISLAMABAD: Heavy rains continued to lash Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Thatta, flooding low-lying areas and disrupting power supply, reported The News on Tuesday.
Over 60 villages were flooded with crops washing away on Monday as over 250,000 cusecs of water passed through the Jhang District area. Authorities had issued a flood warning for the residents who were later evacuated to safer places.
Monday’s spell left Hyderabad, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro, Kotri, Tando Muhammad Khan, Nawabshah and other cities flooded.
The heavy downpour resulted in water entering low-lying areas in Hyderabad, including Qasimabad, Latifabad, Hussainabad, Haider Chowk and Hirabad. The latest spell of rain added to last week’s torrential downpour which had already ravaged the city with power outages and flooded houses. The Latifabad areas No. 02, 08, 10, 11, 12, Liaquat Colony and Noorani Basti were among the most-affected localities. People from some areas, including Mehar Ali, were forced to abandon their houses due to urban flooding.
The breaches caused in the Sim Nullah five days ago could not be plugged, threatening a possible flood in the Kaloi city. Tando Muhammad Khan, Malakatyar, Shaikh Bharkio, Buleri Kareem Shah, Tando Ghulam Haider, Raju Nazamani, Lakhat and other parts were flooded while the local administration failed to drain out water.
