LAHORE: Electricity shortfall prevailing in the country has zoomed to 7,000 megawatt bringing about countrywide unannounced loadshedding with Punjab and Peshawar being worst hit, Geo News reported.
The rolling blackouts have overwhelmed Punjab’s major cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, Qusoor, Sialkot, Sahiwal, and Jhelum suffering form bouts of powerlessness.
Officials pinned this outage on the National Center in Islamabad, which they say is directly shutting down the grids, adding, they have no control over it.
Only Lahore Electric Supply Company’s (LESCO) shortfall has exceeded 1300 megawatt, whereas total national electricity deficit has reached a hulking 7,000 megawatt.
At least up to 14 hours of loadshedding has become a routine in Lahore, while elsewhere citizens are putting up with 18-20 hours without power.
On the other hand North is equally hit as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has also been there is no electricity to be used for double-digit hours.
Pakistan’s economic hub was also not behind in the suffering as despite a stepped-up gas supply Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) failed to keep its word and has been forcing 6-8-hr loadshedding on Karachiites against promised 3-6 hrs.
