FGEHF plans 14-storey flat blocks
ISLAMABAD: Federal Government Employee Housing Foundation (FGEHF) of the Ministry of Housing and Works has launched ground+14 storey apartment buildings for federal government employees in Sector G-13.

The land for Sector G-13 was provided by the CDA on payment to
the FGEHF and it was developed by Frontier Works Organization (FWO).

The city managers have allowed construction of high-rise apartment buildings in the recently-developed residential Sector of G-13 despite the fact its infrastructure was designed to cater only to small buildings.

"Actually the infrastructure of G-13 was designed to cater to a maximum of four-storey buildings," said a CDA official who did not
want to be named.

The decision to allow construction of ground+14 storey apartment buildings was taken by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) board in August.

He said if 14 or 15-storey apartment buildings were allowed in the sector, it could damage the underground sewer and drainage system.

When contacted, an official of the FGEHF said there was no harm in construction of high-rise buildings because land had become so costly, not only in Islamabad but also everywhere in the country.

He said that the CDA has completed the formalities for the construction of 100000 gallons overhead tank and 50000 gallons
underground tank. The construction work is expected to start shortly.

An official of the FGEHF said that membership drive was initiated with the prime objective to provide housing units to government employees under government's ambitious plan.

"The scheme will help overcome housing backlog hitting hard to a significant number of employees for the last several years," he
added.

He said under the scheme, every registered employee would get an opportunity to have a house in the Federal Capital, which has so far remained an elusive dream for many. (APP)
