RAWALPINDI: The shoppers are facing problems due to lack of proper parking lots in varoius commercial areas of the city particularly Benazir Bhutto Road (BBR), College Road, Moti Bazaar, Saddar Bazaar, Tench Bhatta, Lalkurti and several commercial areas.
The situation not only creates traffic mess but also poses security threat for the visitors in these bazaars.
Talking to APP Asif, a motorist, said visiting to Bank Road, Committee Chowk to Center Hospital area on BBR for shopping in a vehicle is a nightmare, as he had to park his vehicle either on the road, or in no parking area on Murree road, which provoked traffic police. Parking of vehicles at Bank road is also fast becoming an issue resulting in frequent quarrels among shoppers and motrists, he said.
Another motorist Bilal said the policemen on duty do not understand that the shoppers have no option other than parking their vehicles at the roadsides.
He said if there is parking arrangement, no one would park his vehicle on the road.
Usman, a shopper said he had stopped shopping in Moti bazaar, College Road, Bank Road and Tench Bhatta due to consistent problem of parking in the bazaars. These are the oldest bazaars in the city and a large number of people come here, but the problem of parking is worsening day by day, he said.
He said though RDA has spent millions in the name of development of Benazir Bhutto Road yet the department was paying no attention to develop car parking area in busy commercial areas of the town.
