HYDERABAD: District Government of Hyderabad has sought a detailed report about the condition of embankments of River Indus from Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority (SIDA).
During a visit to Zero Point at Jamshoro and Giddu Mal levy, DCO Ahmed Baksh Narejo said the report containing details about the condition of the banks and the required reinforcement work would be submitted to the provincial and federal governments.
Managing Director SIDA Ehsan Laghari, Managing Director Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Saleemuddin, International Rottery Club President Najamuddin Shaikh and other officials accompanied him.
The DCO directed SIDA to raise the height of the embankments by 5 feet starting from Zero Point in Jamshoro to Kohsar area of Latifabad. He also asked the authority to widen the river banks to 20 feet and to take serious steps to remove encroachments from the riverbed and from its embankments.
He advised SIDA to train its staff with flood monitoring and flood fighting skills while the authority carries out the reinforcement work of the bunds.
The DCO took strong notice of the practice of lifting sand from the riverbed and ordered the concerned departments to take action against those responsible. (APP)
