RAWALPINDI: City Traffic Police (CTP) took strict action against one-wheelers and special drive was launched to curb the activity especially on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha while 115 were fined and over 36 who were founded indulged in one-wheeling, rash and dangerous driving sent behind the bars.
This was stated by Chief Traffic Officer, (CTO) Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Ghulam Abbas Tarar.
He said the activity was already being checked by special squads of traffic officials deputed on the city roads but special arrangements were made to check the activity during Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
He informed that city traffic police took stern action against the one-wheelers and the city roads especially the attractive areas for the activity were covered effectively.
He said grand operation was conducted against the violators of the law and those who were founded indulged in one-wheeling, dangerous and rash driving were issued 115 challan tickets and fined. 36 motorcycles and vehicles were impounded during Eid holidays in various police stations of the city, he added.
The SSP told that a grand operation against one-wheeling and rash driving was launched during Eid-ul-Azha holidays and efforts to curb the activity are continuing.
He said traffic police officers were directed to keep a vigilant eye on the one-wheelers so that action in accordance with the law could be taken against them. Under special arrangements, traffic officials were deployed at Ayub Park, Murree Road near Underpass, Rawal Road, Sixth Road, Stadium Road and other places. Every sector of the city was covered by separate squads formed in this regard who performed duties under two shifts.
Night duties of traffic police officers had also been arranged to check severe traffic rules violations including one-wheeling, he informed. The traffic officers and circle heads were directed to take stern action against the one-wheelers without discrimination and no one should be spared if found involved in this dangerous act, which is a cause of deaths and severe injuries for the riders.
He said the citizens particularly parents should come forward and play an active role to curb the activity as one wheeling, rash and negligent driving are the main causes for fatal accidents.
He said the grand operation was conducted by city traffic police to discourage drivers especially youth from violating traffic rules. The operation would continue in future, he added. (APP)
