QUETTA: Government Teachers Association Balochistan held a rally in favour of their demands here on Tuesday.
The rally was started and culminated at the Press Club Quetta after passing through different roads of the provincial capital. Teachers attendance at the public sector schools of the city was observed far low than the routine as a large number of teachers had left their schools to participate in the rally.
Earlier, protesting teachers staged a day-long sit-in in front of the press club to press the provincial government to concede their demands succumbing to the teachers association's threat to go on strike if their demands were not met. It is worth mentioning that the previous and the present provincial governments had added several additional allowances to already substantial salaries of the teachers making the salary of a primary school teacher more handsome than that of an officer of other government departments.
On the contrary, delivery of the government sector schools particularly in rural areas is declining with each passing year which is evident from number of their successful students in the annual matriculation examinations. (APP)
