RAWALPINDI: As many as 3779 Majalis with 836 traditional processions would be held in Rawalpindi Division amid tight security arrangements.

Commissioner Rawalpindi Zahid Saeed told that all arrangements have been finalized by the departments concerned and District Coordination Officers (DCOs) of all districts were directed to complete all the arrangements before start of Muharram.

He said out of total Majalis of the division, in Rawalpindi district, the Majalis of A category are 208 while 369 of B category and 1200 of C category.

In Chakwal district there will be one majlis of A category with 775 majalis of C category, in Attock district there will be 171 majalis of A category, 40 of B category and 543 of C category and in Jhelum district, six majalis will be of B category while 463 majalis of C category would be held.

He further informed that in Rawalpindi division total 171 licensed mourning processions and 836 traditional processions would be brought out from 1st of Muharram to 30th of Muharram.

In Rawalpindi district there will be 64 licensed while 384 traditional mourning processions, in Attock district 16 licensed and 137 traditional processions, in Chakwal district 17 licensed and 225 traditional while in Jhelum district 30 licensed and 130 traditional processions would be brought out.

Zahid Saeed further informed that total 183 sensitive points had been declared in Rawalpindi division out of which 83 points of A category, 61 of B category are in Rawalpindi district while in Attock district, 17 points of A category and 13 of B category, in Chakwal district, 21 points of A category and 17 points of B category and in Jhelum district, 8 points of A category and 9 points of B category had been declared sensitive on which the additional forces would be deployed.

He said that all departments concerned would make coordinated efforts and play their vital role for the peaceful passage of Ashura Muharram.

Surety bonds would also be obtained from the managements of mourning and majalis that they would abide by the code of conduct issued by the Home Department Punjab. He said that the speakers and zakreens be made bound not to deliver firing and based on sectarianism speeches.

Special contingents of commandos and police officials be deployed on sensitive points.

He said that walk through gates be installed for Markazi mourning processions and at sensitive majalis places. He said that the police officials would use metal detectors along with the private guards of the Imam Bargahs and mourning procession managements. Every participant would be checked properly for processions and majalis, he added. This is very essential for their own safety. All districts administration of the division had already been directed to make foolproof security arrangements for Ashura Muharram, he added. (APP)
