HYDERABAD: It is a persistent endeavour of the present government to completely eliminate Polio from Sindh province, and it will be ensured that the task is achieved by the end of December 2012.
This was assured by Convener Sindh Task Force and MNA Dr Azra FazalPechuho while presiding over a high level meeting of National Task Force on Polio Eradication held at the Conference Hall of Deputy Commissioner's office, Tando Allahyar on Thursday, said a statement.
She said that due to floods last year and heavy rains this year, the progress towards target of Polio eradication has been affected.
Dr Azra Pechuho said that "It is now our determination to make Sindh a polio free province, as the polio disease is very dangerous for human beings."
She said that all out efforts will be made to achieve the target and deputy commissioners who were made responsible for implementation and monitoring of the task, will ensure a prompt follow-up of the decision.
MNA Dr Azra Pechuho warned that in case of negligence, carelessness or non-achievement of target, serious disciplinary action will be taken against the responsible officers and officials.
She stressed the need to accelerate the efforts and undertake coordinated and concerted measures to make the programme a success.
The Sindh Task Force Convener further said that the programme, as decided, be implemented at union council level and the deputy commissioners be fully involved, data must be made available while the NGOs should also assist and monitor the programme. She further said a prompt motivational campaign through media be launched for awareness among the masses.
The meeting was attended among others by officers of various departments, besides MNAs Ms. Shamshad Sattar Bachani, Ali Nawaz Shah Rizvi, MPA Imdad Ali Pitafi, SSP Tando Allahyar and others. (APP)
