Former president of Pakistan Soap Manufacturers’ Association (PSMA) Aamir Abdullah Zaki has said that the country's soap industry is in crisis with a 50% regulatory duty imposed on soap noodles that are imported.

He questioned how the industry will be able to compete in the era of covid, when hygiene is of paramount importance.

"With such expensive raw material and such high tariffs, it won't come through official channels, and smuggling is likely to increase," he warned.

Zaki asked the government to cut the regulatory duty down to 0% on raw material used for soap manufacturing.Â
