ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) will set up a Nephrology ward soon with 10-bed dialysis centre to facilitate the visiting patients.
Joint Executive Director of PIMS, Altaf Hussain informed the Nephrology ward will be set up with the financial support of Mehtab Zahoor Trust.
He said the PIMS has recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mehtab Trust, according to which, PIMS would provide land for the dialysis centre while the Trust would bear the expenses of construction, equipment and dialysis machines.
Earlier, Dialysis centre comprising 11 beds was operating in the PIMS which was not sufficient as compared to the number of patients who require this treatment, Altaf Hussain said.
The dialysis centre will be established with an amount of Rs 35 million out of which Rs 15 million will be spent on construction of the building and Rs 20 million on the purchase of dialysis machines and other equipments.
Altaf Hussain informed that around 30 patients visit the hospital daily for dialysis purpose and they have to wait for their turn.
The centre will increase the number of dialysis machines upto 21 which will definitely help patients to avail this facility, he said.
The centre will prove as effective for the patients who come here for dialysis from Rawalpindi Division, Kashmir and other far flung areas.
The 10-bed dialysis centre will be constructed within the time period of one and half year.
PIMS will have administrative control of the dialysis centre and it will carry out the maintenance of the centre, he said.
