LEAs ordered to keep an eye on seminaries
KARACHI: Law Enforcing Agencies (LEAs) have been directed to be vigilant and find, if any, madaris in Karachi and other areas of the province are carrying suspicious activities so that strong legal action can be taken against these.

This was stated by Sindh Home Minister Manzoor Hussain Wasan while responding to point of order raised by Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Provincial Minister, Faisal Sabzwari on the floor of Sindh Assembly, here on Friday.

The House strongly condemned the incident of keeping chained and torturing number of students in a Madressah here at Northern Bypass.

The Home Minister informed the House that 68 out 72 students who were recovered from the Madressah were handed over to their parents, whereas 7 students are in custody of Edhi Welfare Centre, here.

The Deputy Commissioner Malir has sealed the madressah, he said.

Madressah superintendent Mufti Dawood who run the madressah escaped the police. He belonged to Quetta while Qari Usman who belongs to Batgram area of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa has been arrested.

He informed that he had a meeting with Ulema and it was agreed that un-registered madaris would be checked and their position would be determined.

Sindh Minister Faisal Sabzwari on his point of order said that it is very disturbing that some people misguide innocent children in the name of religion. If there is an addict, he added, there are health centres for the treatment.

He demanded strict legal action against those involved directly or indirectly in the incident of madressah where many children were kept
chained.

He also urged that law enforcing agencies to ensure that no other such madressah existed in the province. (APP)
