Karachi weather update: Parts of city receive light rain amid forecast of more showers

• Light rain reported in Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Korangi, Quaidabad, Shahrah-e-FaisalKarachi and other areas of the city.
• Light to moderate rain is expected in Karachi in next 24 hours.   
• Humidity level recorded at 80% in the city.

KARACHI: Different part of Karachi received light rain today morning as the city remained under thick and dark clouds on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light to moderate rain in the metropolis in the next 24 hours.

Light rain reported in Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Korangi, Quaidabad, Shahrah-e-FaisalKarachi and other areas of the city.

According to the met office, moderate rain with thunderstorm is expected in the coastal areas of Sindh in the next 24 hours. Humidity level recorded at 80% in the city today. 

PMD Karachi Director Sardar Sarfraz said that drizzling and light rain with occasional gaps is expected in the metropolis today. He maintained that a rain-bearing system is currently present in central India. The city received the light rain due to strong winds traveling from Arabian Sea, he added.

Met Office forecasts more rains from Sept 9

Yesterday, the PMD had forecast more rains coupled with winds and thunderstorm in Karachi between September 9 and 10.

PMD Karachi Director Sardar Sarfraz had said that another low-pressure weather system has developed in the Bay of Bengal.

“The rain-bearing system is moving towards the west and it could cause rains in Karachi and other parts of Sindh between Thursday and Friday,” the official had said.

The latest monsoon system’s effects can be seen in Sindh and northern parts of the country, he had said, adding another low-pressure weather system in the Bay of Bengal could be formed after September 10.

Meanwhile, the met office issued a weather alert in view of the expected heavy rains in the country.

The met office said, "Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country."

“Monsoon currents likely to reach upper and central parts of the country from Tuesday and may persist during the week,” read the statement.
