  • Raju's marriage was fixed through a mediator, who demanded his father to pay Rs80,000 to the bride before the nuptial.

A real-life incident which was more like a reel-life one occurred when a newly-wed bride in India’s Mainpuri area of Uttar Pradesh ran away with the cash and jewellery gifted by her groom, reported DNA Tuesday.

The dramatic "Dolly ki Doli" like incident happened on August 17 when the couple with the groom’s family was on their way home after the wedding.

Media reports suggested that the wedding of a man named Raju was fixed through a mediator, who placed a condition before Raju’s father to pay Rs80,000 to the bride right before the nuptial. Raju’s father is said to have agreed to the condition as his son was "not getting married".

On the wedding day, the groom’s family also gave clothes and jewellery to the young bride in addition to the demanded money.

However, the scene climaxed with the bride escaping with all the gifts and money from the bus stand —where they were supposed to board a bus — after sending the groom to bring water for her.
