ISLAMABAD: The Cabinet Committee on Energy on Friday approved a summary submitted by the power division on the winter incentive package on incremental consumption for all domestic, commercial and general services consumers of XW- DISCOs and K- Electric from November 1, 2021 till February 28, 2022.

The meeting, held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar, considered the revision of gas tariff slabs for domestic consumers during the winter season of FY21-22.

According to sources, under the package, domestic, commercial and general services consumers will get a benefit of Rs7 to 10 per unit on additional electricity consumption.

The sources added that under the discounted power package, two formulas will be used to provide cheap electricity to consumers. A formula in which the consumer has consumed more electricity will be applied to the consumers. As per formula one, the unit price for consumers who use more than 300 units of electricity will be Rs12.96.

At present, the price per unit for the use of more than 300 units of electricity is in the range of Rs19.55 to Rs22.65 per unit.

Under the second formula, the consumer will get a relief of Rs6.5 to Rs10 per unit on the additional electricity of this month as much as they consume from last year.

The final approval of this package will be given by the federal cabinet.

The forum also discussed the agenda in detail and outlined that gas is a precious energy resource and resultantly import of LNG is a large drain on Pakistan's foreign exchange.
