PESHAWAR: At least two policemen were killed and four other people injured Thursday morning when a suicide bomber targeted the convoy of a senior Frontier Reserve Police (FRP) officer in Hayatabad area of Peshawar.
The blast targeted the convoy of the Deputy Commandant of the Frontier Reserve Police Malik Tariq, who was injured in the attack.
"The bomber was on a motorcycle and he rammed it into the vehicle of Malik Tariq who was on his way to the office," Mian Saeed, a senior police official told reporters at the scene.
The bomber targeted Tariq’s vehicle when the senior police officer had just left his residence in Hayatabad.
The injured were shifted to the Hayatabad Medical Complex for emergency medical treatment. Tariq received wounds on his head and arm but his condition was said to be out of danger. Both men killed were Tariq's police guards.
According to officials of the Bomb Disposal Squad the bomber was wearing a suicide jacket packed with high grade explosive material.
Officials said the vehicle was destroyed in the blast, also wounding at least two passersby.
The FRP is an auxiliary force that can be called up to help the regular police in times of need.
