Artificial limbs can bring healthy, positive change: Chairman Rehabilicare

RAWALPINDI: Artificial Limbs can bring healthy and positive change in the lives of all those who had been deprived from living a comfortable and normal life due to loss of their body organs.

Rehabilicare is neither a hospital nor a home for the physically impaired people. It believes in sensitizing people that physical disability doesn't stop anyone from spending the life hopelessly.

Rehabilicare assist such desperate disabled persons to become useful citizens by providing them artificial limbs and body parts so that they could live like normal human beings, This was stated by Chairman Rehabilicare, Gen. (r) Ishfaq Ahmed while addressing a ceremony held to mark the National Day for Disabled Persons here Sunday.

Managing Director, Rehabilicare Trust, Sobia Maqbool elaborated that providing quality services without any discrimination of caste, creed and gender; in the domains of orthotics, prosthetics, physiotherapy & psychotherapy, Rehabilicare has been able to bring approximately 4000 patients back to the world of normal people free of cost besides more than 10000 people who paid minimal charges for becoming a part and parcel of the buzz of life.

More than 40, 00,000 of Pakistan's population is suffering some disabilities and for this big number, few institutions of government can't cop, she said, adding this number is increasing day by day, due to disasters like earthquakes, floods and terrorism. Thus artificial limbs and supportive devices are indispensible for the victims of these tragedies to move in the society as normal human beings. "We need more rehabilitation units in order to cater for this huge number with the provision of best services, limbs and supportive devices as well as with psychotherapy",Sobia remarked.

Giving more details of the functioning of Rehabilicare, Sobia Maqbool narrated that due to lack of resources and outlets of medical facilities, people are deprived to get immediate treatment facilities which often leads to body deformation of most of the patents. She stressed the need for joining hands to such organizations which had been dedicated themselves to render services in overcome the miseries of such persons.
