After Usman Buzdar tendered his resignation as Punjab's chief minister, #WasimAkram started trending on Twitter with memes and reactions to the development.

Noticing the trend, the former Pakistani cricketer also tweeted with the same hashtag, expressing his surprise why he was trending on the micro-blogging website.

Wasim, taking to his official Twitter account, wrote: "I’m not sure why I’m trending but anyway let’s add to it #WasimAkram."

One may wonder what is the connection between Buzdar and Wasim. It may be recalled that after making Buzdar CM Punjab, Prime Minister Imran Khan showed his confidence in him.

He compared the former CM with cricket players, saying "he used to handpick cricketers who later became star players, such as former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram."

Comparing the two, PM Imran Khan said Buzdar would make one of the best chief ministers of Punjab.

Take a look at the memes circulating on Twitter:
