  • US city of Minneapolis allows Muslim call to prayer.
  • It is permitted within limit of 70 decibels.
  • Before this decision, Muslims had to rely on alarms.

United States city of Minneapolis will now permit the Muslim call to prayer to be played via mosque speakers, CBS Minnesota reported.

The call to prayer is allowed to be played thrice a day within a limit of 70 decibels. It is not allowed to be played in the morning or at night.

City council member Jamal Osman presented the bill in the name of "equality".

“This is America, and we are allowed to share our faith from the rooftops, just like everyone else,” he said, saying that the call is allowed at the same hours that are given to Christian church bells.

Before this decision, Muslims had to rely on alarms.

“This is huge. This is huge to many people who call Minneapolis home,” Osman said after the acceptance of the bill.

Azan was first legalised in the US in the city of Hamtramck, Michigan, in 2004.
