MIRALI/PESHAWAR: A PTI candidate for tehsil chairman, Sherbaz Khan, was found involved in alleged pre-poll rigging in the local body elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Spinwam Tori Mirali.

The incident came to light after a video of the polling staff casting votes into the ballot before voting went viral.

According to the district police officer (DPO), the police reached the spot after a complaint was made and an investigation is underway.

District Returning Officer (DRO) Shahid Ali Khan told Geo News that the polling staff did not report to the police. “A complete investigation is taking place,” he said.

Polling for the second phase of the local government elections in the remaining 18 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is underway, amid tight security to avoid any untoward incident today.

The first phase of local government elections in KP were held in December, where the ruling PTI had suffered a major setback as the opposition parties, particularly JUI-F, won a clean victory.
