Bride-to-be stabs man to avoid arranged marriage

A woman who had not consented to marry the man her parents chose for her invited him for a "surprise meet" where she allegedly gashed his neck and left him bleeding, NDTV reported.

Ramu Naidu, the victim, has been hospitalised due to a deep wound in his neck. He is a scientist at the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR).

The accused, Pushpa, is a 22-year-old who dropped out of school. The police reported that she had bought three knives before the "surprise date".

"The woman does not have a criminal history," senior police officer S Gowthami said.

Pushpa told the police that her parents did not listen to her when she refused to marry Naidu, therefore, she decided to take the matter into her own hands and attack the man.
